KARA and SNSD get "Rookie of the Year" award in Japan

Even though we kind of knew it already, KARA and SNSD have been confirmed to have done extremely well in Japan.  Just as the Wondergirls had brought their talent to the U.S., KARA and SNSD have increased K-pop's international recognition via Japan.  How well did these groups do?

"Girl group KARA has so far released two singles, five albums and one DVD and has earned themselves an income of 1.3 billion yen ($15 million) in total sales.  Girls' Generation has released two singles, six albums and one DVD ranking in a total income of 800 million yen ($9.5 million)" (Korea Herald).
